Nuclear Company – Kairos Power

Kairos Power is a mission-driven nuclear engineering and manufacturing company focused on delivering safe and affordable advanced reactor technology to enable the clean energy transition.

In 2021, Kairos Power selected the East Tennessee Technology Park as the site for the Hermes demonstration reactor series to support the development of its fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (KP-FHR) technology. In December 2023, Kairos Power became the first company to receive a construction permit for a Gen IV reactor from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The company commenced nuclear safety-related construction of the Hermes 1 test reactor in May 2025 and broke ground for the Hermes 2 demonstration plant in April 2026.

Hermes 2 will be Kairos Power's first commercial-scale reactor and its first deployment under a multi-plant development agreement with Google. Hermes 2 will build on lessons learned from previous iterations and supply up to 50 MW of clean electricity to the TVA grid, helping to decarbonize Google data centers in the region.

Kairos Power is partnering with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and other local collaborators to support technology development, advanced manufacturing, construction, and operator training. In the coming years, the company expects to create up to 100 high-paying jobs in East Tennessee to support operations at its Oak Ridge campus.
