BWXT (BWX Technologies) has a major and expanding nuclear presence in East Tennessee, centered around its Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS) plant in Erwin, producing naval nuclear fuel, and new facilities in Oak Ridge and Jonesborough for advanced uranium enrichment (DUECE tech) and depleted uranium processing, supporting national security and clean energy goals with significant state investment and community impact.
Erwin (Unicoi County): Home to the primary NFS plant, the largest employer in the county, manufacturing fuel for U.S. Navy reactors and converting government uranium for defense needs.
Oak Ridge (Roane County): Acquisition of land for advanced centrifuge manufacturing (DUECE) to support domestic uranium enrichment for the NNSA, creating high-tech jobs.
